Two years ago, Sinan Kanatsiz '97 (M.A. ’00) had a conversation with Chapman University President Jim Doti that would ultimately set in motion the series of plans that resulted in the launch of Chapman50. It was only fitting that just a few short weeks after achieving its 50th member milestone, Chapman50 was hosted by President Doti at his home in Villa Park for a winter celebration and 2015 kick-off event. Nearly 80 guest joined Chapman50 visionaries Doti and Kanatsiz to celebrate together, welcome new members to the group and encourage each other to think big in 2015.
The first official Chapman50 event was at Pelican Hill Resort in March of 2013. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez '82, who is a member of the Chapman University Board of Trustees, was the featured guest. Fittingly, Congresswoman Sanchez was also the featured guest at this same event less than two years later. Although Chapman50 had just seven members at its kick-off event in 2013, the rapid growth of the group was evident and on display. Chapman50 was proud to show its growth to such a distinguished guest. Fast forward two years and Chapman50 now comprises 50 members!
The Wimberley Bluegrass Band, which is composed of four siblings who are also current Chapman students, provided bluegrass-style entertainment at the event at the Doti’s home. The music was lively and energetic, and even got a few Chapman50 members out on the dance floor.
Another special guest was Oliver Bogner, a current student at Chapman University and producer of multiple successful hit TV shows. President Doti has recognized Bogner on multiple occasions during his addresses to the Orange County business community as well as at official events on campus. Bogner has been featured in Forbes magazine as a rising all-star entrepreneur. Chapman50 members made quick friends with Oliver!
Naturally, Jim and Lynne Doti were incredibly gracious hosts. Opening one’s home to a group of nearly 100 people is no small task. Chapman50 is deeply thankful not only for this memorable event at the Doti home, but also for all of the hard work and sacrifice the Doti family has put into making Chapman University, our alma mater, an absolutely amazing academic institution that we are all proud to give back to!
