Chapman50 gets into the Holiday Spirit at the Hilbert Museum of California Art

On Thursday November 16, 2017, Chapman50 held its annual “Serve” event and Holiday party at the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University.

The museum, which opened in 2016, was founded by philanthropists Mark and Janet Hilbert whose collection includes a wide variety of oils and watercolors as well as animation, movie production art and American illustration from 20th century California artists.

In keeping with the “Serve”, or “giving back” theme of the event, Mark Hilbert kindly joined our group for the evening, and shared with us some key stories and lessons from his personal life, professional experience and philanthropy. Mark then offered a personalized tour of his collection, offering key details about paintings and artists along the way.

Also in attendance was Bradford J. Salamon, one of the contemporary California artist whose art is on display at the museum. Bradford kindly took the group through a personalized tour of his own work, sharing a wealth of information and details about his philosophy, inspiration and technique. Finally, and in the spirit of the Holidays, Chapman50 members brought toys or contributed financially to support Mercy House Orange County, an organization that provides housing and comprehensive support services for a variety of homeless populations including families, adult men and women, mothers and their children, persons living with HIV/AIDS, individuals overcoming substance addictions and some who are physically and mentally disabled.
